Rumors continued over the weekend that Trudeau was on his way out.
Now that’s practically confirmed as the CBC reports that Trudeau will hold a press conference at 5:45 PM ET (22:45 GMT) and announce that he intends to step down as party leader, but not until a new leader is chosen. Before that, he is likely to announce his resignation at a meeting of the national caucus.
Now this is not simple. The Liberals do not have a majority government and it takes 3-4 months for a proper leadership race to take place. Other parties may want to topple the government before then, and the Governor-General may not grant the motion to prorogue Parliament.
