In iOS 18.2 and later, the Mail app improves email management by automatically sorting messages into different categories. This feature is intended to help you quickly find and manage your emails.

Category overview

  • Primary: Contains personal messages and time-sensitive information.
  • Transactions: Tracks confirmations, receipts and shipping notifications.
  • Updates: Includes news, newsletters and social media updates.
  • Actions: Displays coupon and sales emails.

Note: If a message contains time-sensitive information in the Transactions, Updates, or Promotions categories, it will also appear in the Primary category.

Using the categorization feature for new emails

Now that you’re familiar with iOS 18.2 or later, let’s dive into how to use the new email categorization feature:

  • Open that Mail app on your iPhone.
  • Above you can see the four new categories: Primary, Transactions, Updates And Promotions.
  • Tap each category to view emails sorted specifically for that section.
  • If you want to see all your emails together, swipe from right to left at the top to view them “All emails” Option.
  • Once you update to iOS 18.2 or later, the default setting will be used “Categories” view. When you tap three horizontal points In the upper right corner of your inbox you will see that the option is activated Categories.
  • If you don’t want to use categories, tap three horizontal points again and select List view.
