As we quickly approach 2027, I am sad to say this children of men could become a dated dystopian sci-fi film over the next decade. At least, and after watching the dystopian thriller on Peacock for the first time in years, I pray that writer/director Alfonso Cuarón sees the future as portrayed in children of men Thanks to his adaptation of the cautionary tale from PD James’ novel of the same name, that never happens. It’s so easy (and fun) to imagine the End Times as an action-packed romp through no man’s land with souped-up nitro trucks, mohawks and flamethrowers, but children of men‘S The approach, which involves the murky socioeconomic semantics of a world in distress, is far from entertaining, which is what you’ll see on Peacock this week.
Barren in the truest sense of the word
children of men It centers on Clive Owen’s Thelonius “Theo” Faron, a repressed bureaucrat and former activist who lives a cynical life in a post-war Britain that operates as a militarized police state. Facing a global infertility crisis, the community is thrown into distress when “Baby” Diego (Juan Gabriel Yacuzzi), the youngest living person in the world, dies shortly after his 18th birthday. Prepared to spend the rest of his days behind a desk, everything changes for Theo when he is kidnapped by an aggressive refugee rights group called The Fishes, led by his ex-wife Julian Taylor (Julianne Moore).
Theo, who was known for being a force of nature as an activist before giving up his idealism, is tasked with getting Kee (Clare-Hope Ashitey), the first woman in 18 years to become pregnant, to the ever-elusive Human Project transport. Operating in complete secrecy, the Human Project is determined to solve the infertility crisis and must protect Kee at all costs. While this may sound like a daunting task, it is still worth mentioning children of men (Streaming on Peacock) is only made more complicated by the fact that Kee is a refugee and, according to the government, belongs in a concentration camp.
Unlikely comic relief
It’s not all doom and gloom children of men, But when Michael Caine’s Jasper Palmer breaks the tension whenever he’s on screen. Jasper, Theo’s old friend and the film’s eccentric voice of reason, has long, flowing gray hair and doesn’t care how serious things get as long as someone shares with him his enthusiasm for a potent strain of marijuana he calls “”. . Stunning cinematography
Although it is the most convenient way to stream children of men would run on a streaming service like Peacock, I highly recommend watching it on a screen with a resolution larger than that offered by the average iPhone. children of men also doesn’t shy away from long frame sequences that will keep you on the edge of your seat as Theo and Kee make their way to safety from mortar explosions, militarized police and armed resistance citizens.
Saw it recently children of men At Peacock with my projector, I have to weigh in and say that the practical implications are nowhere near as impressive as all the propaganda littered on the streets, hanging on billboards above city streets, and playing on armored bus TV screens continually broadcast to every citizen indoctrinate to comply with government orders as aggressively as possible. These background details are omnipresent and make you feel like you’re living in a surveillance state as you absorb the story.
Children of men stream
If you’re looking for a dystopian sci-fi epic where the future is bleak, safe houses are not safe, and the streets are full of propaganda and violence, but not without a glimmer of hope in the rubble, then look no further children of men should be the next film on your watch list if you haven’t seen it yet. Better yet, if you’ve already seen it, it’s long overdue to watch it again.
